Learn the rules before a kid jump to be an actor! |
Avoid Deadly Mistake of Ignorance
The entertainment industry of Bollywood TV Serials, Commercial ads and Modeling is a very cutthroat and complicated business for everyone and child actors are especially vulnerable. Child acting jobs are not just hard, but they can also be risky for children and parents. In addition to fraudsters and predators, a child's acting career can put an additional pressure on a young child who is already vulnerable to everyday regular pressures like studies and forced extra-curricular activities. Growing up in front of cameras and the rest of the entertainment industry, though a rare and great opportunity is also a very demanding to both parents and children. You must be prepared to work long days, have patience, and always put child actor's safety above all else.
3 Top Advices
So before setting out to starting or continuing your child's acting career, I request parents of kid actors to follow these 3 major advices which will help ensure your child actor's steps in the right direction
1. Child Acting Portfolio
If you are trying to get a casting coordinator or a child modeling agency to represent your child actor, make sure to have their child acting portfolio and a resume ready. Finding a good kid promoting coordinator or a casting director is even harder. A coordinator will want to make sure that the kid looks cute for modeling and well trained for acting in films and TV serials. Secondly, that parents and the child actor will be deeply committed and will meet the requirements of auditions
2. Research
Before going to any child acting audition, do a little research on the casting company. Make sure they have a good reputation. Find out what their policies are concerning rehearsals, discipline, and casting. Make sure this will be a positive and a fun experience.
3. Don’t be a Pushy Parent
Many children may be shy and need a lot of encouragement. Start gently and do not keep pushing if your child resists. Not all children made for fame and stardom.

Ask Yourself, Are You Ready to be a Parent of a Kid Actor?
Parents of future kid actors |
Is to be a Kid Actor right for my child?
1. Think
Being the parent of child actor is a lot of work. You'll have to travel to auditions and either be accompanying the kid to acting classes or to drop and pick up, regularly to be in contact with kid coordinators and agents and put together headshots and resumes.
There are many fraudsters and cheats in Mumbai and other towns in India who know very well that the kid’s parents are totally ignorant about the business of kid actors and will try to squeeze large money with a false assurance to make your kid a model or a kid film star celebrity.
2. Learn Business
Therefore, you have to learn about the acting business while keeping your child up to date with school work and protecting him or her from any negative aspects of the showbiz. Not every parent has the time and resources to do that, especially if they work. If you decide to make sacrifices to support your child's acting career, make sure it's a choice you can live with so you won't put pressure on your child to succeed.
3. Make sure this is the right decision, not based your or on someone else's views!
Sometimes we mistake our own ambitions for our children's. Sometimes you get carried away by a child’s few stage performances on school’s or community stage and you just want your kid to be an actor. Or, perhaps due to praise showered by neighbors or visitors on how cute your child is and that the kid should be an actor.
Be careful! None of these are good reasons to start a kid acting career.
Find out your child's interests and typical signs in your kid’s early life right from when the child was a baby. What are your kid’s dreams? Then let the child tell you whether he/she likes to act. If they don't really have a drive to act, the constant rejection that inherently comes with auditioning could be harmful to a child's self-esteem, so make sure they are the driving force behind this whole pursuit of acting before you spend time on training and money on auditions, portfolios, demo-reel, website and on registration with coordinators.

11 Early Signs Your Kid could be an Actor | What Next?
Indian kid actors in a show |
Parents to note!
As children develop from infants to teens to adults, they go through a series of developmental stages that are important to all aspects of their personhood including physical, intellectual, emotional and social.
The proper role of the parent is to provide encouragement, support and access to activities that enable the child to master key developmental tasks and this is more true if you want your kid to be an actor.
A parent is their child’s first teacher and should remain their best teacher throughout life. Functioning as a coach, the parent exposes a child to age appropriate challenges to encourage development as well as to experiences that allows the child to explore on their own and learn from interacting with their environment.
Before you want your kid to be an actor, try to find out whether your kid has exhibited any signs or traits from his/her early childhood, which has initiated a thought process in your mind that the kid can be a good actor.
One of the ways you can understand your child is by observing them as they sleep, eat, or play.
Look for one or all of these signs of an actor like
What are the early signs of an actor in a kid |
- Since early childhood had been making funny faces and signs
- Could dance
- Was a very expressive baby
- As your child started growing up your kid wrote, directed, and acted in all your school, temple, church or other religious or neighborhood plays
- Even the simplest tasks were performed with great focus and intensity
- May or may not be interested in studies, but use to dream a lot, create and play with imaginary stories and toys himself/herself becoming a character of the story/play
- Sometimes people find it difficult to handle your kid-naughty, restless and too eager to ask questions like -what, then what, where, when, why and so on
- Really know how to play a child star in a party
- Always conscious of how he/she look and dress
- Can mimic well what you observe-people, animals, birds and voices
- Exhibits the signs of being highly sensitive
When your inner voice says that yes, my kid can be a good actor then support and go on encouraging the child till you are alive!
Develop the craft of acting by giving the kid proper professional training, preferably by an acting coach who specializes in tutoring child and teen actors

How to Prevent Parents Ruining Their Kids Actor Dreams
A kid before a film take |
Don’t Hurry the Process of Your Child Becoming a Great Actor
Many parents rush their child to get few model or artist coordinators and expect quick audition calls. This invariably does not happen. Most of the coordinators may take money and may never bother about you kid. Or they may not get sufficient inquiries for kid models or actors from the casting directors or the production houses.
May be with an unusual luck, even if you get an audition call, your kid may get a rejection because of lack of professional actor’s training, especially in camera acting and how to give auditions, apart from learning acting techniques.
Danger
If a child is not emotionally and professionally ready, the process can be too scary, shut the child down, and make them want to quit. Though every parent loves their kids and may get carried away with their own opinion about their child being already an actor- You cannot take this for granted and be ready for the starting line. If your or your child’s dream is to be a top child model or a Bollywood/ TV serial actor, would no research on industry and the absence of professional training prepare them for a career?
My Authentic Tip
Seek a professional advice from an expert either from a good kid’s modelling agency or better for a specific kid acting coach and get your kid learn professional acting before you push your love into

What's that Single Unique Factor to Make a Kid a Great Actor
Aspiring kid actors with their mother |
It takes a special class to raise an actor. I have personally seen many a young talented kid actors get sidelined from their dream because their parents did not have the proper education of the process. I love coaching kids and I believe they have their child’s best interests at heart, but with lack of education in the acting field, a parent can derail their child before they even get started.
If you want to develop acting as a part-time hobby or just like any game to which kid students are exposed in their school then it’s okay. However, even then a proper training to excel in community or school plays is necessary for your kid’s motivation and public applaud to be positive and successful in life. Remember, we all act in our life interacting with situations and people to meet our objectives. After all, life is a stage!
However, if you have observed your kid’s early symptoms like mimicking or acting funny, fun loving and outgoing, dancing or singing, fearlessness on the school stage, eager to participate in school’s cultural activities and you are serious about your kid’s acting craft and a possible future in this field, then read this tip carefully.
The Single Factor
Training
If the actor is not properly trained, they are not an actor. Acting is fun, but it is not a part-time hobby. If your child is serious about pursuing this field, you must cultivate a mindset, as one would do when becoming a professional musician, athlete, or dancer. Your child must train continually in order to stay competitive and most importantly cultivate the understanding of the entire process. When a child is in school sports, parents are diligent about never missing practices or games. However, when it comes to their acting classes, many parents do not attach the same discipline. They find the money to invest in other activities, but fall short when it comes to paying for artistic training. Do your research. A great acting coach or a class will enhance every area of their life.
- Find out a good acting school specializing in kids training
- Better, to look for a private professional acting coach for kids who trains with lots of patience, care and in a playful manner
- You may contact us also for a one on one professional training for your kid with

How Observing And Mimicking People Can Make A Child An Actor
A child learning acting by observing and mimicking |
My Child Is A Real Looker But Poor In Acting. What Should I do?
Take The Kid Out To Observe and Ape People
How My Kid Can Learn Acting At Home Without Going To School?
I must stress the need of joining a good kid acting school or better, to hire an acting coach. However, if a kid can not join due to some reason or another, then read this and other posts of this blog and practice
Who is a kid actor?
A kid actor is one who plays a role of an imaginary dramatic character. This kid actor has traits of dreaming a lot, creates and plays with imaginary stories and toys himself/herself becoming a character of the story/play.So, a kid should observe and understand everything about different types of kid characters he/she sees around him/her
Observation
This is my favorite because it’s easy. You do not need a rehearsal space, special equipment, or a dedicated time.
I call it
"Observation-A Simplest and the Best Techniques for Kids to be a Great Actor"
How to play diverse "Characters" you observe?
An Indian child exhibiting emotions of happiness |
Now start practicing the observed character. Don't mimic (copy), but maintain what you are naturally and then try to be that "observed" character
Create a story
1. As you observe a character, ask questions to yourself-Who could be this Motu or Chotu (Pseudo name given by you to this "observed character)? Does Motu/ Chotu have parents, friends, brothers and sisters? Where is he/she going now? What is the biggest problem he/she has to solve? What is he/she dreaming about?2. Now create a game, a sort of story-If you would dramatize the observed character's life, what type of film would it be? A story full of quarrel and fights? A story with a wild dream? A funny story? A ghost story/ Why? Imagine and create a scene with him/her. Imagine the way he/she talks. Go in your mind as detailed as you can.
3. Now you also become a part of that story you have created. Decide your part and JUST PLAY!
4. Let parents or your friend record this story on mobile video recorder. Show this recording to others and seek their opinion. Look at the video and check whether your images, movements, your voice is okay in relation to the camera. Check if your face is being shown properly on the video. If not, then re-record.
5. Practice playing different observed characters daily.
