Parent's Dilemma-Child Is Talented But Not Selected | Solution

My kids have good acting talent | Why train them?
My kids have good acting talent | Why train them?

If You Train Your Child To Be An Actor, This Is What Happens To Kid's Life

Learning 9 Acting Skills That Will Transform Your Child Into a Good Actor And A  Successful Adult

1. Confidence

The Acting Coach teaches kids to take command in any situation and to overcome a fear of meeting and interacting with people. It trains them to have confidence and to learn from their mistakes through practice.

2. Creativity

Children learn how to think creatively through imagination and observation exercises and role-playing. It’s a skill that comes in handy as a working adult.

3. Focus

Learning to really listen, respond truthfully rather than faking and contribute during the audition and while enacting scenes, helps to develop key focus skills. The Acting Coach teaches kids to build greater concentration and keep their minds on the current task.

4. Team Work, Cooperation, and  Adjustment

When they work in a group, kids learn how important their role is to a group activity. Many introvert kids become extrovert by working in a group comprising of other kids with diverse attitudes

5. Dedication

Kids learn dedication through practice and delivering a final result. They learn how to show up on time, develop good work habits and put forth a great effort to deliver a successful performance

6. Developing Impressive Body Language

  • Posture, Walk, Etiquettes, Proper use of body parts like face, eyes, hands, shoulders, language, voice, expressions etc
  • A good body language also helps them to learn 'Nonverbal' communication (communicating silently through face and eyes).

7. Determination

With consistent practice and determination, kids get a feeling of a great achievement and accomplishment after a performance. Developing determination at a young age helps them reach their goals in the future.

8. Receiving Constructive Feedback

Receiving criticism something that many adults have trouble with, may detest and may look at it as a negative part of acting training. Through learning acting, children learn that pointing out mistakes and faults, areas of improvements and other feedback are just another part of the learning process, not something that should be taken personally.

9. Problem solving

Kids learn critical problem-solving skills in the film and theater arts. They must learn how to transform a clay ball into a cup, solve a riddle or how their characters will act in a certain situation. These practices will help children develop an important skill that is necessary for adults.

How Can Be Your Child Be An Actor Without These 6 Vital Tips?

As A Parents, Do You Know What Are The Requirements For Your Child To Be An Actor?

Dear parents,
The Hard Fact
Nothing can work for your child to be an actor if firstly, you identify talent in your child, make a thorough research on theater, cinema, modeling and commercial ad and TV industry.
Finally, You must find YOUR time in guiding, accompanying, planning his/her school and acting career and developing into a fine actor and a good adult

Acting is a great career for those who are interested and of course talented. People aspiring to be successful actors in the future actually start nurturing their talent from childhood itself. With the rising demand for more and more child actors in different media of the showbiz industry, including film, television, advertisements and theater, nurturing this young talent has become even more essential. As children are not much aware of how the acting world works, it becomes the responsibility of the parents and mentors to guide the child to act.  But do not try to be an acting coach. Leave it to experts. Though some kids are experts in mimicking other actors as well as the people they meet in their daily life, acting professionally is totally different.

Pros and Cons

There are numerous pros and cons of making children act at a very young age. Acting in films, stage (and other media) firstly cultivates a positive attitude within a child. Frequent stage appearances and acting before a big audience helps the child shed his or her premonitions and overcome any weaknesses. A child, at a very early age, learns the importance of teamwork and sharing. Most importantly, it makes the child more confident and optimistic.
However, a child might lose interest in his studies and other important things in the long run, and so the parents need to encourage their kids in such a way that they do not lose out on any of the fronts.
Nevertheless, though making a child act can be a little difficult, it is definitely not impossible, because we have seen a host of child actors who has entertained us for a long time. So parents, here are some tips that would help you guide your little ones in their acting career:

1. Observe and Learn

Make your child see various popular movies and dramas. Make them observe and understand for themselves how a renowned actor portrays a particular character, how he displays a particular emotion, and what response he gets for the same from his audience. The quality and quantity of knowledge that a child would grasp just by observing others will be of a much greater degree than whatever he will learn from plain literature. Every minute observation helps to a large extent in the long run.

2. Learn Acting Craft, Professionally

This is a must. Either by a good kid's acting school or in my opinion, through a professional acting coach who would train your kid by knowing a child’s psychology and design a syllabus accordingly. Children joining such  schools or a coach become familiar with the basics of acting, and this actually gives them a cutting edge over the others, who are untrained.

3. Practice And Practice

Rehearsal is a very important aspect of acting. There is no actor in the world who has achieved name and fame without doing rehearsals repeatedly and religiously. Make the kids learn their dialogs properly, and make them understand the demand of the character they are playing. If they succeed in understanding the character, only then would they be able to do justice to the role they are playing. For instance, if your child's role is that of a shy and withdrawn kid in a script, render help and ask him/her to create a story from his/her imagination and then play that shy boy/girl with his/her lines from the script.
Practicing in this way will help your kid understand the way he has to act for his role. Rehearsal, both individually and along with the rest of the cast, plays an important role. Individually, a child can be asked to rehearse before a mirror so that he himself can critically examine his work and make the necessary improvements. He can then rehearse with the rest of the cast so that the play becomes a well-coordinated whole.

4. Develop Voice

It is important that he learns to speak clearly so that the lapel mike or boom can hear him clearly. Apart from various voice exercises, which a child can learn in a good school or with an acting coach, you can make him practice at home with the help of some exercises. One such exercise is where you have to keep some kind of object near your kid and ask him to say the dialogs to that object as if it is a person listening to him.

5. Learn Acting for Camera

In-depth understanding of how to play for camera constitutes a major part in the success. Stages are of different kinds, and each demands different types of entry and exit structures, empty spaces, lighting effects, and so on. These things can be imbibed in a child through specialized kid’s acting and experience.

6. Understand Acting On Stage

In-depth understanding of the stage on which the play is going to be enacted constitutes a major part of the play's success. Stages are of different kinds, and each demand different types of entry and exit structures, empty spaces, lighting effects, and so on. Also, different stages require different kinds of voice modulations, which have to be worked out well in advance before the play begins. These things can be imbibed in a child through serious acting and experience.

How Can I Help My Child To Be An Actor?

3 Steps Guide On How To Start Your Child To Be A Great Kid Actor

1. Train The Child To Be A Professional Actor

Let the child learn professional acting. Initially, I would recommend an expert kid acting coach and then followed by a good acting school
This is the absolute best way to start.

Why?

A. The child is entering into a new world-acting. Once trained on 'one on one' basis by a coach find a good child acting class and it will help you and your child to enter a community of parents of children actors who will give you advice on auditions, good managers, and agents or artist coordinators (casting directors) in your town/area or in Mumbai (India), photographers, resumes, and much more. This will save you a lot of time and money and help you avoid acting scams.

B. Another reason to start with a training is that it will help your child see if acting is for him or her. If your child is not having fun in class or doesn't really look committed to learning the craft, he can just move on to some other interesting activity and you won't have spent money on headshots, resumes, and mailings.

C. Finally, another advantage of starting with a good training is that your child can build the confidence to succeed at kids auditions. This can make all the difference. A child who knows what to expect won't feel as shy or nervous during auditions.

2) Get a Kid Portfolio (Headshot) and Resume

Don't worry about getting a professional kid portfolio right away. You don't want to spend money on some celebrity portfolio photographer only to find out that the children acting agent/coordinator you get doesn't like them, plus if your child is starting out, he/she may not be as relaxed posing for a stranger.

Just 'do it yourself' to begin with. Digital cameras make it easy. You can take an unlimited number of shots until you find the one you like. It should be a head and shoulders shot and look exactly like your child. Avoid tight close-ups that conceal your child's hair and body type but stay close enough to focus on your kid's eyes.

Go for a natural and spontaneous look. This is important for all actors but even more for children because if your child is deliberately taking a pose, he just won't look like a kid. Taking the pictures outdoors with natural light will help. If your kid is having a hard time smiling naturally, try to take your camera along when you go out and take a few candid pictures when your child is having fun at the park or elsewhere. Of course, you need him to look at the camera, but if you're fast, you could have just enough time to get that great natural shot.

Resume
Once you got a child portfolio/headshot you're happy to start with, put together a kid resume. Don't worry, nobody expects child actors to have tons of experience. Just write simple details like name, weight, height, age (screen age look which usually is a range like 3 to 7), experience (community, schools social functions), additional skills like singing, dancing, sports etc, website, contact details etc.
You can get the best examples of a child actor resume on internet (Google images)

3) Get a Children Acting/Artist Co-ordinators Or Agents

In the US and other countries, there are 'agents' and you can find, evaluate and select them online or through acting classes or through your acting coach. In India for Bollywood and for TV serials, they are artist coordinators (nowadays some call themselves 'casting directors' though they may not be decision makers). Though they may offer useful advice on children headshots, resumes, and classes, the best is to have a private professional acting coach who may guide you better.
Their main job is to refer our child to auditions. There is a joining fee (registration fee) apart from a fixed percentage of the earnings of an actor. In India though not a guarantee, your chances of getting audition calls could be better with your kid's registration with the larger number of artist coordinators/casting directors.
(In US: Preparation to Work: Before you take your child out on kids auditions, you'll want to make sure they have all their paperwork ready should they book the job. They will need a social security number and a work permit from the Department of Labor, which both their school and pediatrician may have to sign off on. Your child's acting agent should be able to provide you with all the details and requirements, as well as information on how to open a trust account for your child's earnings. Also, make sure you and your child have a passport should they book an movie or TV role shooting overseas.)

Congratulations! Now your child is ready for auditions.

How Can You Help Your Child To Be An Actor

Are You Serious In Helping You Child To Be An Actor?

If Yes, Then You MUST Plan And Schedule Your Time For Your Child Either Daily Or In A Week

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Games and Exercises You Can Create As Parents To Make Your Child A Good Actor

1. Reading lots of Imaginary and Inspirational stories

Encourage to tell stories in front of you, family, parties, social gatherings, school's cultural shows etc

2. Word game

  • On a piece of paper write down 5 to 10 random names in big letters with space like the window, blue. dinner, train, cold, angry etc
  • Let the child sit with the paper in a comfortable position, close eyes, relax, concentrate and keep his/her finger on any of the names you have written. Open eyes, see the name. Give the child 2 to 5 minutes in silence and let him/her think of a situation, a story, an experience related to that word.
  • Let the kid stand up and tell the created scene, story related to that word. For example on word Blue- 'I had been to John's beach house and played on the nearby beach. The waters were blue. I like the blue of the sea....."
  • The kid must narrate the story enacting the scene

3. Observation

  • Set aside a time in daily or in a week for observation
  • Let the kid start observing keenly the things in his/ her home like items, people visiting, family members
  • Then his friends, neighbors, school, especially her/his class teachers (some teachers are worth mimicking and the kids love to copy).
  • Take your time out from your busy schedule and visit children parks, garden, zoo, museum with your child. Let him/her observe people, animals, pictures, paintings etc
  • Let the child show/ mimic observed characters (people, animals, things, gestures, walk, voice etc) to you or to a party, picnic
  • Go on appreciating the performance with high applause

4. Transformation

  • Let him/her observe people/ Items

Play a scene
Let the child transform his/ her observed item into something weird like a young girl into a wicked witch, a simple toy into a prince or into a castle, a pencil into a car etc.

  • Weird movements

Let the child walk, speak weirdly, physically contract into the smallest Ant or largest like a Dinosaur. Let the child  or change into floating as if on water, fly like a bird, become a flower, change into a spider etc

  • Playing a character game

Let the child enter into a party scene.
The moment your kid enters, the host shouts "Wow, here comes Robinson Crusoe" or " Mouse" or "Leonardo de Caprio" or any celebrity other children are familiar with.
Now the entered guest (your kid) has to transform into that introduced character for say 5 minutes (or for a pre-decided time). Practice this scene regularly with different characters. This is a very good practical game and learning exercise.

Kid Selected? Great! But May Fail On A Film Set | 7 Rules

Angelina Jolie with a child star
Angelina Jolie explaining a shot to a child actor in India

What Is Crucial For A child's Future Acting Career?
But Does He Know "On Set Manners"?
After A Child Winning An Audition

Congratulations! Your child has been selected in the audition and now the kid will be going for the film shoot.
How wonderful that your child has the opportunity to work on a professional film set! While child actors are hired to share their talents—and to play—they also must learn crucial "on-set manners" and behave well and professionally. Well-mannered and polite behavior will increase your child’s chances of being invited back repeatedly to work on future projects!
So before you step onto the set, here are 7 important behavior rules your child must learn and follow.

1. Must Have An Attitude of Thankfulness

Let the child know that this is a really special opportunity! Help your child to understand how a film or a TV show is made. The process, the countless hours of hard work—and the hundreds of people—that it takes to make a TV show or film. Explain to your child that there will be many people on set serving her food, fixing her wardrobe, and giving her specific instructions. Each of these people is valuable and make it possible for your child to have this job. As such, she should express and experience gratitude with every step!

2. Don't Take Photos

Typically, photos are not allowed on set for legal/non-disclosure reasons. It’s best to assume that photos are not allowed and to find out what is allowed once you see the paperwork and meet the Assistant This AD will be your child’s main point person throughout his day on set. When in doubt, ask the AD (never the director). Sometimes a second AD, who reports to the first AD, will be assigned to your child. It depends on the size of the project and role. The AD is there to support and look after the actors to make sure they are in the right place at the right time and have everything they need. Having a good relationship with the AD is crucial, so remind your child to be on his best manners.

3. Stay in Your Assigned Area

TV and film sets—especially for children’s shows—have the appearance of exciting playgrounds. This can all be very tempting, but it is really important that your child stays in her designated waiting area between takes. Of course, if your child needs a snack or needs to use the restroom, that is totally fine. Just remember to check in with the AD or person covered before leaving your assigned area.

4. Be Quiet Please

Between Takes.
This one may sound obvious or seem simple, but film sets are very stimulating places, and child actors (and even adult actors, for that matter) can be quite excitable and chatty. If your child is not acting in a scene, it is so important that he remain silent on set when the camera is rolling. One small noise in the distant background can mean that the director will have to re-shoot an entire scene. Depending on where your child’s designated area is located, he may be able to chat with the other actors. The AD should make any noise-related rules quite clear, but when in doubt, you can just ask!

5. Lunchtime Etiquette

Cover and keep your belongings safely; Normally crew eats first because they have to get back to work first.
Before breaking for lunch, your child should check whether what clothes can she wear during lunch. It's better to bring a nice-sized robe to cover your child’s outfit while she is eating. And of course, it doesn’t hurt to remind her of proper table manners!
The AD will most likely tell your child when it is time to eat, but it is always great to manage her expectations up front.

6. Teach Well In Advance To Be  Respectful

To the crew, cast members like co-star children, adults, and other parents. For leaving a good impression and for networking, It is important for him to be patient and polite.
Also, we know that sometimes kids can take out their frustrations on the people around whom they are most comfortable:  their parents. It is so important that children respect their parents on set—not only because it’s the right thing to do, but also because people are always watching.

7. Enjoy And Have Fun

Of course, the most important thing is that your child enjoys the experience of acting on a professional set. Be sure that you and your child celebrate this exciting opportunity!
