Simple 5 Rules On How Child Actors Should Appear In Auditions

Preparing a child actor

Parents! Don't Take Your Child For Audition Unless.....

You Have Followed These Rules And Prepared Your Child

Rule 1.

With kids, I see many of them saying words they don’t know how to pronounce or even know the meaning of, thereby making the words and intent meaningless. I know parents have good intentions when they coach them, but if a kid is meant to say the name of ex-president of India, it would be so much better if she actually knew who president was, what was he known for, and how to pronounce his name. It’s the little things!

Rule 2.

These kids must be enormously confident in introducing themselves. They must take a class that taught them how to look straight into the camera lens and say, “Hello, I’m Ronnie and I’m 12 years old, 4-foot-2, and performing for the role of Mohan, the naughty!”

Rule 3.

Another thing I’ve noticed with kids is that they grow every second of the day. When I’m looking at their profile online and it doesn’t resemble the kid, we have problems. Word to the wise: You’ve got to update your show-reel, pictures, size, and weight regularly. Sorry, you may get rejected in audition because you look like you’re 8 years old in your profile when you’re really 12. It probably gets very expensive to get new photos taken every year, but it’s an investment you’ve got to make if you want to be taken seriously in this business.

Rule 4.

Don't throw trash in the audition waiting room. A word of advice for kid actors: That waste paper basket in the room is for you, buddy!

Rule 5.

Lastly, remember when in an audition room, pay full attention and listen to your casting director, follow quickly what he/she says and then play the role.

Why Children should be encouraged to be an Actor?

Why acting is good for children
Why acting is good for children

1. The acting is good for a child's overall education

As parents, we strive to support our children in all of their endeavors. Actors act because nothing satisfies them as much. For young performers, it instills values and improves a child’s self-image. I strongly believe that the performing arts are essential to a complete education. Acting and other performing arts teach children the value of their creativity and gives them the confidence to share it with others. If you ever question what your child is achieving on their quest, here are three reminders of why acting can boost self-confidence and help your child thrive.

2. Acting instills pride in children

Acting requires enormous effort and helps children realize their potential for success. If your child spends time practicing, cultivating, and perfecting a piece of art, she/ he will feel a great sense of accomplishment when she/he performs. They will carry that sense of pride into other aspects of her life because they have developed confidence in their ability to achieve their goals.
Great for educational career
Acting improves academic life. Studies show that acting translates into improved academic performance. The American Alliance for Theatre & Education found that students involved in drama performance “scored an average of 65.5 points higher on the verbal component and 35.5 points higher in the math component of the SAT.”

3. Being a child actor develops Skills

Listening skills, Reading comprehension, as well as social skills among children. A good performance relies on the ability for children to work as a team. Teamwork is also a necessary component of a successful academic life. If a child is constantly improving on these skills by performing, her confidence on the stage will improve her confidence in the classroom.

4. Acting in children improves creativity

Acting is an outlet for creativity. Acting provides children with a safe space for self-expression. There is no right or wrong. Actors discover more about themselves by working with their minds and bodies. If a child believes in her own ability as an actor, it will translate in her/his performance. Acting is also an experience how to work in “group”. Child actors must work with each other to build trust and confidence in their art and when they grow up; this eventually gets transformed into building life skills.

5. Acting in kids generates confidence

Acting ingrains in their creativity and passion. Whether your child has dreams to act professionally, or simply enjoys it as a hobby, she/he will learn that her art has value. Success comes from believing in yourself and your abilities. The confidence that children gain through performing will carry over to all aspects of their life.

So, let your child master acting craft, empower themselves and enjoy the journey.

6 Steps of How Parents Can Help Their Child to be a Star

With show business becoming a global industry, there has been a constant demand for actors. The obvious impact is that there has also been a considerable increase in the demand for child actors, who seem to be giving the producers a good run for their money. In such a scenario, it becomes absolutely necessary that the aspiring child actors learn some important tips and tricks that would help them improve their talent.

People aspiring to be successful actors in the future actually start nurturing their talent from childhood itself. With the rising demand for more and more child actors in different media of the showbiz industry, including theater, television, cinema and advertisements, developing this young talent has become even more essential.
As children are not much aware of how the acting world works, it becomes the responsibility of the parents and coaches to train the child to act. Though some kids are experts in mimicking other actors as well as the people they meet in their daily life, acting professionally is totally different.

There are numerous pros and cons of making children act at a young age. Acting on stage (and other media)

Pros

• Firstly, it cultivates a positive attitude within a child.
• Frequent stage appearances (may be in school’s cultural functions or in neighborhood functions) and acting before a big audience helps the child shed his or her apprehensions and overcome any weaknesses.
• A child, at an early age, learns the importance of teamwork and sharing. Most importantly, it makes the child more confident and optimistic.

Cons

• However, a child might lose interest in his studies and other important things in the long run.
Solution
• And so the parents need to encourage their kids in such a way that they do not lose out on any of the fronts. One of the ways is the time management, allotting time for every activity and to write down weekly and daily activity plan
• Nevertheless, though making a child act can be a little difficult, it is definitely not impossible, because we have seen a many kid actors who have entertained us for a long time.
So parents, here are some tips that would help you guide your little ones in their acting career:

6 Success Steps

1. Observe, Dream and Learn:

Let him/her observe people, animals, birds, stars or anything. Focus and remember the details-looks, walk movements, shape and then make stories and then narrate stories by showing/ acting them

2. Watching Movies

Let your child see various popular child movies and dramas. Make them observe and understand for themselves how a renowned actor portrays a particular character, how he displays a particular emotion, and what response he gets for the same from his audience. The quality and quantity of knowledge that a child would grasp just by observing others will be far greater than an adult, for sure.

3. Reading Stories

Let the kid read interesting stories LOUDLY- fairy tales, the  prince and princess stories, adventure, humorous etc. This will definitely develop the child’s power of imagination

4. Join some good  child acting coach:

This will help him/her to become familiar with the basics and the finer aspects of acting, technical aspects of acting for the camera and will actually give them a cutting-edge over the others.

5. Practice and Rehearse:

To practice regularly and rehearsal is a very important aspect of acting. There is no actor in the world who has achieved name and fame without practicing and doing rehearsals repeatedly and religiously. Make the kids learn their dialogs properly, and make them understand the demand of the character they are playing. If they succeed in understanding the character, only then would they be able to do justice to the role they are playing.
As parents this is how you can help in his/her development
For instance, if your child's role in a play is that of a shy child, make up a story where he plays the shy child and feeling out of the place and “you” play the role of the talkative child at a party. Create certain dialogs for both, the kid as well you as the “characters” of small story you have created. Practicing in this way will help your kid understand the way he has to act for his role. Rehearsal, both individually and along with the rest of the cast, plays an important role. Individually, a child can be asked to rehearse before a mirror so that he himself can critically examine his work and make the necessary improvements. He can then rehearse with the rest of the cast so that the play becomes a well-coordinated whole.

6. Quality of Voice and Projection:

If your kid gets a part to play in a drama, it is important that he learns to speak loudly so that the audience can hear him clearly.
Speaking clearly and cleanly is important. Give your child a one or two line dialog and let the child speak normally. Then increase the speed and then go about lowering the speed. Ensure that pronunciation and diction is correct
Of course, the child’s coach will teach him/her various voice exercises.

Acting tends to get more and more refined with experience. An actor can learn a great deal of things through his or her mistakes, and it is these mistakes which make the person better each day. For kids who are talented actors, starting their careers with stage/theater performances can provide a great boost. This is because, stage performances not only makes the actor more confident, but also adds spontaneity to his work, which further helps him in other media as well.

Does Your Child Have These 3 Key Traits to be an Actor?

Child actors in TV serial
Child actors in TV serial

Show business is glamorous to the outsiders. It is exciting and attracts adults and kids alike who dream of living in that world in the  footlights or studio from all walks. Insiders, however, know it is a lot of hard work and not everyone is cut out for it. How do you know if your child has what it takes to succeed? Here are three necessary traits that all successful performers in the industry have in common.
A. If your child has these below mentioned traits, develop them further to be your kid to be a star
B. If not, then remember, these can be learned. Let the child get trained by a professional kid acting coach

1. Fire (Passion)

There is no doubt when young performers get the acting, singing, and the dancing bug that they are excited about it! It’s fun! Everyone will see their talent. The rewards will be fabulous! The question is whether this thrill will last. Is it rooted in a true passion for the craft? Look for, the evidence. A child who is truly passionate about performing will be driven to exist in that world above all else. Sports? Not crazy about it, thanks, Spend Sunday at the mall? No, really!
Playing Spiderman? Oh, yes! Wanna go to audition for a school play? Sure! Can you go for regular rehearsals? Of course!  Can you show how your Mom and Dad fight over Dad not helping Mom over housework? Should I show you now? I’m ready! Can you show how uncle Nair walks? Can I show you now? Would you like to learn acting from a good acting coach or a school? I would love to! Uncleuncle when Can I join? Can I during my vacations starting from the next month?

It is this kid’s love affair with performing art that is the whole reason for getting into the acting game and business. There is no substitute.

2. Dedication

Cine and modeling industry does not notice aspiring adult or child actors with just a passing interest in performing. A child needs to be committed to learning, practicing, and developing her talent above all other interests. There is a lot of competition and many talented people are desperately trying for attention, so each child will need to work hard and drive his own progress forward. This commitment means a child looks for opportunities to pursue her craft, getting involved in school plays, performing in house parties and in local theater. Your child will be memorizing her lines during her free time rather than playing Ludu Board, Chor-Police, Kancha, Scrabble or surfing the web. The mere thought of being late to acting class keeps her motivated to do her chores and homework on time. It would not be a struggle to get him to focus and do the work needed to memorize his monologue or nail his dance routine because he loves it. The work gets done.

3. Strength of character and bounce back ability

Everyone faces rejection in show business. While it may take some time to adjust to it, the experience of being told “no” is valuable. A performer can’t quit when things become challenging. He has to go out the next day and try another audition. And another. No one is right for all roles, and there are infinite reasons why one does or does not get cast. It is not personal. Understanding this is necessary for learning persistence. Courage, confidence, and resilience are needed every step of the way.
Pursuing a career by a child in the performing arts is a tough road, but definitely exciting and with scintillating future! Talent and skill are important, but they are not enough. It takes hard work over a long period of time to break through, so you have to be diligent and hard-working. There are many disappointments before every success, so you have to have faith that the work will pay off. You keep pushing forward because you believe that success is right through the next door you open. All of these things together create the engine for success, and passion is the fuel that propels you forward.

Master your craft, empower yourself, and enjoy the journey.
